World Series, Game 6

1906 World Series at South Side Park: This fabulous panoramic view from center field is from the deciding Game 6 of the 1906 World Series at South Side Park, where the Chicago White Sox upset the Chicago Cubs four games to two. It was to be the first of three World Series championships for the South Siders (1906, 1917 and 2005). Interestingly, as this was the first "Subway Series" &8212; even though there was no subway! &8212; games were played on six consecutive days as they alternated ballparks.

This third rendition of South Side Park, which was in use from 1900 to 1940, would be abandoned by the White Sox in 1910 in favor of the steel-constructed and much larger Comiskey Park, which would be built just three blocks north. With a capacity of only 15,000, the wooden South Side Park would be renamed Schorling Park (Comiskey's son-in-law) and serve as home to the Negro League Chicago American Giants until it burned down in 1940. Today the location is occupied by the Chicago Housing Authority's Wentworth Gardens.
